Between January and June 2026, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kwara addressed over 100 reports involving rape and gender-related offenses. The state commandant, Abbas Nda-Mohammed, shared these figures in Ilorin on Tuesday, highlighting these efforts as a major step in shielding vulnerable citizens.
During this timeframe, the command successfully prosecuted a sexual offender who was sentenced to life imprisonment. The Gender Unit specifically managed 36 domestic violence reports, with 12 currently in mediation. Furthermore, the corps intervened in 19 child custody disputes, resolving 15 of them.
Regarding child abandonment, the unit received 38 reports, successfully settling six cases while continuing investigations for the others. Of nine reported abduction cases, officials have already reunited four victims with their families. Eight additional cases, covering rape and child molestation, are presently moving through the court system.
Nda-Mohammed emphasized that the corps will continue to pursue justice for all survivors. He encouraged residents to report abuse immediately and reiterated the agency’s dedication to upholding the rights and safety of women and children across Kwara state.
