Lawal Hamisu, a father of 11 children, requested the Shari’a Court II in Magajin Gari, Kaduna, to intervene regarding his 27-year-old daughter, Fatima Lawal. Represented by attorney H.B. Debo, Hamisu argued that despite his daughter completing her Higher National Diploma, she has repeatedly rejected serious marriage proposals.
Hamisu alleged that his former spouse has influenced their children against him and urged the court to force Fatima to marry. In her defense, Fatima stated that she has yet to receive a formal marriage proposal from any of her admirers.
Presiding Judge Malam Yakubu Abdullahi acknowledged the sensitivity of the family dispute. He intends to conduct private discussions with both the father and the daughter to gain clarity before offering counsel. The court has scheduled the next hearing for August 3, 2026.
