Bauchi State Police have taken 40-year-old Clement Anthony into custody following the homicide of a local leader. Authorities recovered a single-barrel firearm and a spent shell casing from the suspect during his arrest.
The victim, 55-year-old Jacob Bature, served as the Mai Anguwa of Unguwar Ngas within the Inkil district. Witnesses stated that the attack occurred on the evening of July 19 around 7:00 p.m. Anthony reportedly confronted Bature with the weapon, firing shots that struck the leader in the right side of his rib cage.
Following an emergency report at 8:30 p.m. at the ‘A’ Division Township Police Station, officers arrived at the scene. Bature was transported to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, where medical staff declared him deceased. His body remains in the hospital morgue.
The State Criminal Investigation Department has assumed control of the case. Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu publicly denounced the violence and promised a thorough legal process. He further cautioned the public against owning illegal weapons and encouraged citizens to report dangerous activity to local law enforcement.
