Jhon Duran secures loan move to Benfica as career travels to seventh club

Former Aston Villa and Al-Nassr striker Jhon Duran has moved to Benfica on a season-long loan, marking the seventh club of his professional career at age 22.

At only 22 years old, former Aston Villa forward Jhon Duran has secured a season-long loan move to Benfica, arriving from Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr. This transfer marks his seventh professional team in as many countries.

Benfica will pay a 5.19 million pound loan fee for the Colombian international, with a permanent transfer option set at 25.5 million pounds for the conclusion of the 2026-27 campaign. Duran expressed his excitement about joining the Portuguese club, stating he aims to win championships and perform at his best.

Duran’s journey began at Envigado in 2019 before his move to the Chicago Fire. He later gained prominence at Aston Villa after a 14 million pound transfer in 2023. Following a high-profile 71 million pound sale to Al-Nassr in early 2025, he has experienced several short-term stints, including loans to Fenerbahce and Zenit St Petersburg, where he managed three goals in nine appearances.
