Rivers United manager Finidi George has declared that the team’s primary goal for the 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League campaign is to secure the championship. The Pride of Rivers previously concluded the last season in the second position.
Finidi expressed strong belief in the team’s recent roster additions, noting that the squad appears improved in every area compared to the previous year. He remains hopeful that these upgrades will lead to superior performance. While acknowledging that finishing as runners-up is a respectable result, Finidi emphasized that the club remains committed to competing for the trophy this time around.
Despite his optimism, the coach admitted frustration regarding the lack of high-quality strikers within the league. He highlighted that finding reliable goalscorers is a major challenge across Africa, noting that top talent is often lured away by more lucrative offers in other countries. He cited the loss of a top-tier striker who moved abroad as an example of the current difficulty in recruiting offensive players.
