Kieran McGeeney has been confirmed to continue his tenure as the manager of the Armagh football team for the 2027 season. His reappointment was officially approved during a meeting of the county committee on Monday.
Entering his 13th year leading his home county, McGeeney holds the record for the longest-serving manager in the inter-county game. His journey with the squad began as a coach under Paul Grimley in 2014, before he transitioned into the manager role the following year.
McGeeney’s leadership recently culminated in a historic 2024 All-Ireland victory, adding to his previous success as the winning captain in 2002. His 12th year in charge was particularly notable, as the Orchard county secured the Ulster title for the first time since 2008 by defeating Monaghan with a score of 2-28 to 0-25.
This achievement followed a difficult period where the team suffered consecutive narrow defeats in the Ulster Championship, including penalty losses against Derry and Donegal. While the 2026 season concluded with tournament exits at the hands of Louth and Kerry, McGeeney’s track record—including his six Ulster titles as a player—remains a cornerstone of the county’s sporting efforts.
