Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen is scheduled to adopt a new squad number at Galatasaray beginning with the 2026/27 campaign. According to local reporting from Habersarikirmizi, the forward will take possession of the club’s iconic No. 9 shirt.
Osimhen has competed in the No. 45 jersey since arriving at the club because the No. 9 kit was occupied by Mauro Icardi. Following Icardi’s exit, the jersey became vacant, prompting Galatasaray leadership to offer it to their primary attacker.
Journalist Ali Naci Kucuk noted that team officials deliberately delayed the transition to show deference to Icardi and his history with the squad. The club avoided shifting the number while the Argentine remained associated with the team.
Now that the transition is official, Osimhen is expected to debut the new number next season. The move highlights the organization’s faith in the Nigerian’s long-term value. Much like Icardi, who originally wore number 99 before switching to the No. 9, Osimhen will follow a parallel path by claiming one of the most distinguished shirts in the Turkish league.
