Former World Cup Star Jorge Valdivia Arrested on Rape Suspicion
Former Chilean international Jorge Valdivia has been arrested on suspicion of rape, according to prosecutors.
Valdivia, a celebrated attacking midfielder who played a key role in Chile’s 2015 Copa America victory, was detained following allegations made by a woman after an encounter in Santiago.
The woman, a tattoo artist, claims she met Valdivia at a Peruvian restaurant in the Providencia district of Santiago to discuss tattoo designs.
After consuming two cocktails, she reportedly experienced a memory blackout and woke up in Valdivia’s apartment the next morning. She later filed a formal complaint after Valdivia confirmed they had engaged in sexual activity.
Valdivia has denied the allegations, stating, “I had a consensual relationship with an adult woman.” He has expressed his willingness to cooperate fully with the investigation, urging the public to respect his right to innocence.
Due to the ongoing legal proceedings, Prisa Media, the owner of Radio ADN where Valdivia serves as a football commentator, has announced his suspension until the case is resolved in court.
