Denge Josef Onoh, a former Southeast spokesperson for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has commended EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede for leading the commission toward historic levels of asset recovery. Onoh credits the commission’s current leadership with establishing a new standard for accountability and anti-corruption efforts in Nigeria.
A major milestone highlighted by Onoh is the permanent forfeiture of 52 housing units in Lekki, Lagos, to the Federal Government. This move, sanctioned by Justice Alexander Owoeye in July 2026, involves properties linked to Fielddreams Limited and other parties. Onoh noted that this adds to a growing list of significant recoveries, including assets associated with Aisha Achimugu and former Attorney-General Abubakar Malami, as well as the ongoing prosecution of former CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele.
Since taking the helm in October 2023, Olukoyede has overseen a period of unprecedented activity. Reports indicate that the EFCC has recovered over 566.32 billion Naira, 411.57 million US dollars, and substantial amounts in other foreign currencies. Beyond liquid assets, the agency has secured 1,502 non-monetary properties, such as the Lokogoma estate in Abuja and the facility now known as the Federal University, Kaduna.
Onoh contrasted Olukoyede’s rapid success with previous administrations, noting that this performance is the most intensive in the agency’s history since its 2003 inception. He further highlighted that recovered funds are actively supporting national programs, such as the Federal Government’s Student Loan Scheme.
Finally, Onoh credited President Tinubu’s administration for granting the EFCC the autonomy needed to tackle financial crimes effectively. He observed that these efforts, including aggressive actions against cybercrime and money laundering, were instrumental in Nigeria’s removal from the Financial Action Task Force Grey List, solidifying the country’s reputation in the international community.
