The Enugu State Government has greenlit a wide-ranging series of infrastructure, housing, and tourism projects aimed at expanding the state’s economy. These approvals were finalized during a recent State Executive Council session.
Key projects include the completion of the 10.5km Igogoro-Amachara-Ikpamodo-Okpo-Amaada road and the renovation of the state secretariat’s C and D wings. Furthermore, the administration will undertake significant housing developments, specifically constructing 1,000 terrace units at the New Enugu City and 18,000 mass housing units at Gateway Estate to alleviate local housing shortages.
To boost tourism, the government is launching the Ovu Lake Golf Resort in Akpawfu, featuring a championship golf course and luxury amenities. Other notable plans involve the development of ecotourism sites in Akwuke and Attakwu, as well as a 5.32km cable car network connecting Okpatu Hill to the Awhum Waterfall to enhance visitor accessibility.
Officials also noted that drainage systems along Nsukka’s main roads will undergo repairs to mitigate flooding, while the Ministry of Works will receive new equipment to facilitate ongoing maintenance efforts.
