The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has raised objections to the government’s plan to renovate the Olaiya Flyover in Osogbo, asserting that the structure is currently in excellent shape. This opposition stems from Governor Ademola Adeleke’s recent order to prioritize the bridge’s repair ahead of the inauguration of the new Okefia Flyover.
During a site inspection, Governor Adeleke noted signs of wear and directed the Ministry of Works to begin maintenance immediately. His spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, stated that the Governor views this work as a necessary preservation of state property, emphasizing that he believes in the continuity of governance and the upkeep of all inherited infrastructure. Adeleke noted that his administration aims to maintain completed projects regardless of their origins.
However, APC spokesperson Kola Olabisi has questioned the motive behind this directive. He claims the bridge, which was built under former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, is structurally sound and requires no intervention. Olabisi suggested the project is merely an excuse to funnel state funds to political allies while other sectors languish. The party is now demanding that the administration provide professional engineering reports to justify the expenditure, urging citizens to speak out against what they characterize as a wasteful use of public funds.
