British cyclist Beth Shriever has secured a record-breaking fourth elite world title, becoming the first athlete in the sport to achieve this milestone. The achievement occurred under unusual circumstances at the UCI BMX Racing World Championships in Brisbane, Australia, as severe weather conditions forced the event to be cut short.
Due to heavy winds that made racing conditions hazardous, officials were unable to complete the scheduled rounds. Under UCI regulations, the final standings were determined by the results of the opening round held the previous day. Shriever, 27, was awarded the gold medal based on her leading lap time from that session.
Reflecting on the outcome, Shriever admitted it was an unexpected way to secure the title but expressed satisfaction with her performance from the day prior. This win complements her previous world championship victories in 2021, 2023, and 2025, in addition to her Olympic gold medal from the Tokyo 2020 Games.
The men’s category saw British rider Ross Cullen take silver, placing behind Australia’s Jesse Asmus. Meanwhile, in the junior women’s division, Freia Challis claimed the top spot, finishing ahead of teammate Elsa Rendall Todd.
