Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has formally requested that the federal government incorporate Arabic studies into the national school curriculum. He argues this change is necessary to provide fair recognition and job prospects for those earning degrees from institutions in Arab nations.
The Governor issued this appeal during a meeting at the Bauchi Government House with a group of Saudi Arabian business leaders and representatives from the Nigerian student body currently studying in Saudi Arabia. The group was headed by Dr. Shuaibu Abubakar Idris, who serves as the Director for the Centre for Sunnah Studies in Africa.
Governor Mohammed voiced worries regarding the declining attention given to the historical Arabic academic traditions in Northern Nigeria. He pointed out that the region shares deep religious and cultural bonds with the Arab world that ought to be protected. Furthermore, the governor highlighted the past success of the Arabic College in Alkaleri, noting that it was neglected by past political leaders. He stated that reviving such facilities is essential for fostering high academic standards.
During the visit, Dr. Idris noted that the goal of the trip was to connect Bauchi State with Saudi investors interested in local partnerships to stimulate economic expansion. Additionally, the student representatives thanked the Governor for his ongoing backing and vowed to apply the skills learned during their international studies to assist in the growth of Bauchi and the broader nation.
