England narrowly edge past Argentina in dramatic Nations Championship victory

England claimed a narrow 31-24 win against Argentina in the Nations Championship following a last-minute video review that disallowed an Argentine try.

England secured a tense 31-24 victory over Argentina in a Nations Championship clash characterized by a controversial conclusion in Santiago del Estero. With time expiring, Argentina winger Bautista Delguy touched down in the corner, which would have set up a potential equalizing conversion. Referee Angus Gardner initially awarded the try, but the Television Match Official, Brett Cronan, intervened to suggest Delguy had stepped into touch.

Despite Gardner noting a lack of conclusive evidence to reverse his initial decision, the try was ultimately disallowed. A pivotal tackle by Henry Slade earlier in the sequence played a significant role in the outcome. The final whistle saw Argentina players visibly frustrated as they surrounded the officials.

England’s scoring efforts included tries from Tommy Freeman, two from Ben Earl, one by Marcus Smith, and another by Immanuel Feyi-Waboso, with Fin Smith adding three conversions. Argentina responded through Santiago Carreras, a penalty try, and Juan Cruz Mallia, while Tomas Albornoz contributed two conversions and a penalty.
