Jigawa Governor Halts N1.3 Billion Gumel Hospital Renovation Project

Governor Umar Namadi has suspended the N1.3 billion renovation of Gumel General Hospital, citing poor performance and lack of progress by the contractor, Yasmeen Automobile Nigeria Limited.

Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi has halted the N1.3 billion renovation contract for Gumel General Hospital. This action followed a surprise nighttime visit where the governor inspected the pace and quality of upgrades in areas like the patient wards and the isolation center.

Namadi voiced deep disappointment, noting that the current progress is far beneath the requirements of the agreement. He stated that the execution failed to align with the government’s vision for a full facility remodel. Consequently, the governor ordered the Ministry of Health to pause the contractor’s work and safeguard public finances while a formal review takes place.

The contract, awarded to Yasmeen Automobile Nigeria Limited on December 17, 2025, carried an eight-month deadline. With seven months elapsed, the state leadership found the results lacking. Governor Namadi emphasized that his administration maintains a zero-tolerance policy regarding subpar construction and stressed that contractors must fulfill quality standards and schedules. During the same tour, the governor also examined renovation efforts at Ringim General Hospital, instructing that firm to fix deficiencies and quicken their work speed.
