Social Democratic Party presidential candidate Adewole Adebayo claims the Oyo State government possesses the necessary resources to manage the investigation into the recent kidnapping of students and teachers in the Oriire Local Government Area.
During an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Adebayo argued that local authorities are better equipped than international bodies like the United Nations to uncover the truth and prosecute those responsible under state law. He urged Governor Seyi Makinde to utilize existing state institutions to launch a formal inquiry and criminal investigation.
Adebayo emphasized that the perpetrators violated specific state statutes, including laws against kidnapping, conspiracy, and murder. He asserted that because the Governor was elected to enforce these laws, his administration maintains the inherent power and legal infrastructure to address such crimes. He insisted that the state should prioritize its own governing authority rather than seeking outside intervention.
Furthermore, Adebayo addressed the broader security crisis, noting that the incident in Oriire is part of a nationwide pattern of violence. He urged the federal government to look beyond this single case and develop consistent strategies to protect citizens in states like Zamfara, Kebbi, Katsina, Benue, and Plateau.
