Dr. Sam Amadi, a political analyst and head of the Abuja School of Social and Political Thought, recently stated that the 2015 election of former President Muhammadu Buhari was a catastrophic event for Nigeria. He shared these sentiments on social media this past Saturday in light of several ongoing corruption investigations involving key figures from the previous administration.
Amadi expressed that the decision to return Buhari to power was a tragic error and suggested that those who supported the move owe the nation an apology. His remarks arrive amidst a flurry of legal actions by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) against high-ranking former officials.
These individuals include former Central Bank Governor Godwin Emefiele, ex-Attorney General Abubakar Malami, former Accountant General Ahmed Idris, former Aviation Minister Hadi Sirika, former Power Minister Saleh Mamman, and former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello. The EFCC is pursuing these figures over claims of money laundering, contract fraud, and the embezzlement of public funds totaling hundreds of billions of naira. Legal proceedings are currently active as some defendants face trial while others continue to dispute the allegations.
