The Anambra State High Court in Awka has handed down a six-year prison sentence to Onyebuchi Okocha, known widely as Onyeze Jesus, for violating the Anambra Homeland Security Law. In addition to the jail term, the court ordered him to pay a penalty of ₦20 million.
This ruling serves as a major milestone in the state government’s broader initiative to curb fraudulent spiritual activities and criminal conduct performed by individuals posing as native doctors. Prosecutors established that Okocha misled the public by asserting he held supernatural abilities, specifically citing his controversial Oke-Ite rituals as proof of his deceptive practices.
Authorities argued that the facilities owned by the defendant were used for operations that broke state security regulations. This legal victory is part of a larger enforcement push by Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration, which seeks to identify and prosecute those who manipulate religious or traditional sentiments to exploit citizens. The state government remains committed to punishing anyone whose actions compromise public order and safety.
