Agada Urges Tinubu to Halt Ongoing Violence Following Otukpo Attacks

Peter Agada, a 2027 presidential hopeful, is calling on President Tinubu to modernize Nigeria’s security framework following a violent attack in Benue State that he claims resulted in over 50 deaths.

Peter Agada, the 2027 presidential candidate for the Young Progressives Party, has formally requested that President Bola Tinubu overhaul Nigeria’s security framework. Speaking in Abuja, Agada criticized the federal government’s tendency to offer mere condolences rather than concrete measures against armed factions following the deadly July 12, 2026, assaults in the Akpachi and Otukpo-Nobi districts of Benue State.

Representing The Movement Nigeria, Agada challenged official reports regarding the Benue incident. While the government cited 18 deaths, his organization’s investigation suggests the toll exceeds 50 casualties. He emphasized that these findings were verified through eyewitness testimonies, local partners, and first responders. He urged the administration to modernize the national security apparatus into a sophisticated, digital-age system capable of apprehending and convicting violent criminals.

Agada pointed out that the North Central and Middle Belt regions remain particularly vulnerable to persistent cycles of kidnapping, terrorism, and armed robbery. He maintained that Nigeria possesses the necessary financial resources for security but suffers from a critical deficit in political integrity and decisive action. Finally, he extended his sympathies to the impacted families, calling on both state and federal leaders to prioritize the safety of the populace and guarantee justice for those harmed in Otukpo.
