A group of aspirants supporting Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has taken legal action to dispute the results of the recent All Progressives Congress (APC) National Assembly primaries. These individuals, who missed out on the party’s tickets, have filed a case against the APC National Working Committee and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) regarding the candidates submitted to the electoral body.
Represented by Remi Olatubora, SAN, the disgruntled aspirants include figures such as Gbenga Elegbeleye, Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti, Leke Akingboye, Rasaq Obe, Kayode Ijalana, Oyerinmade Matthew, and Olumuyiwa Daramola. Their decision has caused some alarm within the party, as stakeholders worry about the potential impact on preparations for the 2027 general elections. While party leadership is currently monitoring the situation and encouraging the use of internal dispute resolution, they emphasize that such conflicts are common in politics.
A parallel situation has developed in Benue State, where supporters of Governor Hyacinth Alia have also turned to the Federal High Court in Abuja regarding their own primary election outcomes. Justice I.E. Ekwo, overseeing the case in Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/1429/2026, has ordered all involved parties to maintain the status quo while the court reviews the matter. This legal move seeks to prevent any alterations to the candidate lists previously submitted to INEC following the June 2026 primaries.
