Argentine President Javier Milei Declines Invitation to World Cup 2026 Final

Argentine President Javier Milei has confirmed he will watch the 2026 World Cup final from home to maintain his personal good luck rituals.

Javier Milei, the President of Argentina, announced on Thursday that he will skip the 2026 World Cup final in the United States. He intends to watch the match against Spain from his residence instead.

Speaking on El Observador radio, Milei stated he refuses to abandon his superstition of watching games from home, a routine he has maintained throughout the tournament. He also emphasized his commitment to wearing a specific YPF oil company jacket as a good luck charm.

The President noted that he first wore the garment during the 3-1 quarter-final victory against Switzerland. He explained that after conceding a goal once he removed the jacket, he decided to wear it continuously throughout the remaining matches. Argentina successfully reached the final following a 2-1 win over England on Wednesday.

While Milei remains in Argentina, the match in New Jersey will be attended by U.S. President Donald Trump and King Felipe VI of Spain.
