The Kwara State Police Command’s Intelligence Response Team has successfully detained two individuals from Togo following a failed attempt to extort N22 million from a Nigerian resident. The suspects, identified as Yakubu Ismaila and Hadiza Kosia, allegedly threatened a man named S. Ismaila, who lives in Okuta. They demanded the payment, warning that failure to comply would result in his abduction and the death of his brother, Musa Ismaila.
Police spokesperson Ejire Adeyemi confirmed that the victim alerted the Okuta police division. Utilizing technical intelligence and collaborative efforts, authorities tracked down and apprehended the suspects. During questioning, both individuals admitted to the conspiracy. Officers successfully seized a mobile phone used to transmit the threatening messages, which now serves as primary evidence.
Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, praised the officers for their rapid intervention, which successfully averted a potential crime. The Commissioner emphasized that the investigation is ongoing to locate other potential accomplices. He also encouraged the public to stay vigilant and share any relevant information with law enforcement to maintain regional safety.
