15-Year-Old Tricycle Rider Hacked to Death; Alleged Killer Burned by Residents in Delta
A keke driver known as “Smally,” who operated between the Ugbuwangue and Ogunu communities in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State, has been brutally killed with a battle axe by a man identified as Jereoma from Jeddo Community in Okpe Local Government Area.
The teenager, who reportedly began his keke business less than a month ago, had picked up his attacker between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. on October 8, traveling from Ugbuwangue to Ogunu on a chartered basis, only to be brutally hacked to death in the Ogunu community.
The assailant then abandoned the body near a plantain farm beside a private school at the Ogunu head bridge.
Afterward, the alleged killer, still wearing a blood-soaked shirt, attempted to flee in the deceased’s keke, but the tricycle fell into a ditch.
Hausa traders who witnessed the keke fall rushed to assist the rider, only to be shocked to find him covered in blood.
Upon further inquiry, they realized the tricycle belonged to someone they knew in the area.
Sources indicated that when they asked him about the real owner of the keke, he was unable to provide a convincing answer.
The tricycle riders searched the area and discovered the mutilated body of the 15-year-old “Smally”, with his head axed and opened up from behind.
The corpse was taken to the military post on the MPA expressway at Ugbuwangue.
Angry youths seized the killer from the soldiers’ custody and set him on fire before the Police Area Commander, the Chairman of Warri South LGA, and officers from the 3 Battalion Army Barracks arrived at the scene.
