Dawood Safi, 28, has been found guilty of the attempted murder of his landlord, Shahzad Farrukh, at Southwark Crown Court. Safi had previously pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of 49-year-old dog walker Wayne Broadhurst, citing diminished responsibility due to a severe psychotic episode.
The incident occurred on October 27, 2025, in Uxbridge. Safi, an Afghan refugee who arrived in the UK in 2020, attacked the 45-year-old Farrukh in the annex of his home with a large kitchen knife. Following this, Safi encountered Broadhurst, a street sweeper who was out with his dog. Broadhurst suffered approximately 14 stab wounds and died almost immediately. Safi was apprehended by police shortly thereafter using a Taser.
Prosecutors established that although Safi was experiencing paranoia and hearing voices, he remained capable of forming an intent to kill. The court heard evidence regarding his declining mental health, including prior attempts to seek assistance from both a hospital and a police station. While Safi has been convicted of the attack on Farrukh, the jury is still deliberating on a separate charge related to the attempted murder of a 14-year-old boy. Safi remains in custody awaiting further sentencing procedures.
