Dangote Refinery Addresses Rumors Regarding Petrol Sales Suspension

Dangote Refinery officially denies reports of halted petrol sales, clarifying that its 700,000-barrel-per-day operation continues as depot owners hike prices.

Dangote Refinery has formally responded to speculation surrounding the alleged cessation of petrol gantry sales to marketers. During a conversation with DAILY POST on Thursday, Anthony Chijiena, the spokesperson for Dangote Group, dismissed reports that the 700,000-barrel-per-day facility had stopped selling petrol as entirely incorrect.

These comments follow widespread claims that the refinery had halted sales at the current rate of $0.779 per liter, which equates to approximately N1,075 per liter. This uncertainty surfaced shortly after the refinery opted to stop selling refined products in Naira, marking a significant adjustment for the domestic downstream sector.

While the gantry price at the Dangote facility has not changed, third-party depot owners have increased their ex-depot prices by roughly N100. Distributors like Optima, Emedab, and Parker are now selling petrol at rates between N1200 and N1225 per liter, an increase from the previous N1080. As of the latest update, retail fuel pump prices in Abuja and surrounding areas have held steady between N1155 and N1205 per liter.
