Kano Leads Nationwide Voter Registration With Over 182,000 New Sign-ups

Kano State leads Nigeria’s voter registration drive with over 182,000 new sign-ups as nationwide figures surpass 2.4 million ahead of the 2027 elections.

Kano State has taken the lead in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, securing 182,749 registrations by July 10, 2026. Data from Phase III, Week Nine, confirms that this figure accounts for 7.50 percent of the national total, split between 60,325 online and 122,424 physical sign-ups.

Across the country, INEC has processed 2,436,275 registrations as part of its strategy for the 2027 general elections. These figures comprise 823,324 online and 1,612,951 in-person applications. Following Kano, Edo recorded 121,554, Lagos saw 114,983, and Delta registered 108,547.

Conversely, registration in Osun has been halted to comply with Section 9(6) of the Electoral Act 2022 due to the impending governorship election. Ekiti reported the lowest numbers with 84 registrations, while Ondo recorded 14,407. Other states like Sokoto, Bauchi, and Jigawa maintained steady participation. The Federal Capital Territory contributed 33,288 registrations to the national tally as the exercise continues across Nigeria.
