Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, has stated that the agency is currently concentrating on the upcoming Osun State gubernatorial race alongside planning for broader national elections. He shared these priorities on Wednesday while hosting a delegation from the Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria residing in Plateau State.
Led by Pius A. Akubo, SAN, the visiting group arrived at the INEC headquarters in Abuja to offer their congratulations on Amupitan’s recent appointment. Akubo remarked that the appointment serves as a significant achievement for both the North-Central region and the democratic health of Nigeria, while also offering prayers for the Chairman’s success in his new role.
In his response, Prof. Amupitan thanked the group and highlighted his personal ties to the legal community in Plateau State. He took a moment to honor the memory of deceased senior advocates from the region. The Chairman requested continued support and prayers from the public and legal professionals as the commission fulfills its duties. He also lauded the dedication of his staff, including National Commissioners and directors, whom he referred to as the primary force behind recent electoral progress.
