A Federal High Court in Abuja has approved a N100 million bail for Danladi Umar, the former head of the Code of Conduct Tribunal. The judge required one surety of an equal amount who must also provide a certificate of occupancy.
This ruling followed previous legal proceedings where an FCT High Court in Maitama had ordered Umar to be held at the Kuje Correctional Centre. This detention occurred after the Federal Government filed a four-count corruption case against him.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission accused Umar of abusing his position for personal gain while leading the CCT. Specifically, investigators allege he accepted bribes from contractors tasked with tribunal projects. Mr. Umar maintains his innocence and has entered a not guilty plea to all charges.
