Iran’s Revolutionary Guards announced on Wednesday that the Strait of Hormuz will stay closed until the United States halts what Tehran describes as aggressive actions. The military group also cautioned that additional oil export corridors in the region could face potential disruption.
Ongoing tensions between the two nations, which escalated in late February, have caused significant delays in energy shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical passage for Gulf oil and gas. According to Iranian state media, the Revolutionary Guards confirmed they launched strikes on US military sites in Bahrain and Kuwait in retaliation for American attacks on Iranian soil.
A statement issued by the Guard warned that since the United States has hampered oil and gas exports in the Indian Ocean, other transit routes serving Washington and its allies may also be targeted. They emphasized that energy resources from the region will be accessible to all or none at all. Meanwhile, US officials have consistently disputed Iran’s claims of authority over the waterway, maintaining that global shipping lanes must stay operational.
