NANS Announces Emergency Over Campus Housing and Challenges Student Leader Detentions

NANS President Babatunde Akinteye has declared a state of emergency over poor student housing conditions and relocated the association’s headquarters to Anambra to push for the release of detained student leaders.

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has officially proclaimed a state of emergency regarding the declining standards of campus housing throughout the nation. NANS President Babatunde Akinteye, frequently referred to as Babtee, made this declaration during his inaugural ceremony.

Akinteye emphasized that the current state of many student residences is both unsafe and unfit for human habitation. He pledged that the association would prioritize advocacy for significant upgrades to these facilities to ensure students have access to secure and appropriate living conditions.

Furthermore, the organization has decided to move its national headquarters to Anambra State. This strategic relocation is intended to amplify pressure for the liberation of student activists who the association claims are currently held in unlawful custody. The president specifically urged Magistrate Nnamdi Aduma, a representative of the Magistrates’ Association of Nigeria, to uphold legal standards and guarantee that justice is served for the detained individuals. Akinteye maintained that NANS remains dedicated to defending the rights and welfare of Nigerian students against any form of intimidation.
