Craig Foreman, a British citizen currently imprisoned in Iran, has been handed an additional two-year prison term, according to his family. Foreman, who was originally serving a ten-year sentence for alleged espionage, was detained alongside his wife, Lindsay, in January 2025 while they were riding motorcycles from Europe to Australia. The couple maintains their innocence.
Relatives state that the extra time was imposed as a penalty for Craig Foreman communicating with the media from inside Tehran’s Evin prison. Spokesperson Joe Bennett explained that Foreman was denied legal representation, a translator, and any chance to challenge the new ruling during a surprise court appearance. The couple has been on a hunger strike since May, protesting the prison’s refusal to let them contact their families.
Health concerns for the pair are rising, as reports suggest Craig has lost 16kg and Lindsay is suffering from tremors and dizziness. Their family claims that medical supplies and requests for the couple to abandon their strike have been ignored by authorities. United Nations human rights experts have previously urged Iran to release the pair, citing significant flaws in their trial process. The British government, which has long advised against travel to Iran, recently appointed former minister Alistair Burt as a special envoy to assist British nationals detained in similar circumstances.
