Lagos Authorities Search for Assassins of NURTW Official Toba Ajiboye

Lagos police are investigating the murder of NURTW official Toba Ajiboye, who was fatally shot by gunmen along Ikorodu road, prompting a search for the perpetrators and heightened security across the state.

The Lagos Police Command is actively searching for unidentified gunmen who murdered Toba Ajiboye, the Organising Secretary of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), known widely as Toba Ijaya. The attack occurred on Ikorodu road while Ajiboye was heading home from the Fadeyi area. His vehicle was intercepted and struck by multiple bullets, leaving the windshield and frame riddled with holes.

Although early reports suggested that Ajiboye and his passengers had survived the shooting with injuries, medical staff at St. Nicholas Hospital on Lagos Island eventually confirmed his death. Tensions flared on Tuesday near the hospital when union supporters blocked police from collecting the body. Police spokesperson Abimbola Adebisi confirmed that officers have been positioned at key locations throughout the state to maintain public safety while the investigation continues.

Lagos NURTW Chairman Mustapha Adekunle, known as Sego, paid tribute to the deceased via social media. He mourned Ajiboye as a deeply loyal friend and a critical member of his political base, TeamSego and SegoNation. Adekunle expressed his profound sorrow, highlighting the immense dedication Ajiboye brought to both the union and their shared political efforts.
