Nigeria and the United States Strengthen Security Alliance Against Terrorism

Nigeria and the U.S. have renewed their commitment to collaborative defense strategies to address terrorism and regional security concerns during a high-level meeting in Abuja.

General Olufemi Oluyede, Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, has pledged to enhance military collaboration with the United States to combat terrorism and regional instability. This commitment was made during a meeting at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja with Frank Garcia, the U.S. Assistant Secretary for African Affairs.

Representing the Chief of Defence Staff, AVM Francis Edosa highlighted the strong foundation of the Nigeria-U.S. partnership, which relies on shared democratic goals and a mutual dedication to global security. The discussions emphasized existing cooperation in intelligence, military training, and counter-terrorism efforts.

General Oluyede noted that the current security climate in Africa necessitates robust international alliances to address transnational crime and violent extremism. He expressed optimism that this engagement would expand strategic cooperation. In response, Garcia praised the Nigerian Armed Forces for their ongoing work in regional stabilization and promised that the U.S. would continue providing security assistance and strategic support to help Nigeria overcome its current challenges.
