Citizens from 43 specific nations are permitted to enter the United States without a standard visa through the Visa Waiver Program (VWP), assuming they fulfill all necessary criteria.
This initiative enables qualified visitors to come to the US for transit, business, or tourism for a duration of no more than 90 days. Before leaving, travelers are required to secure authorization via the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA).
To qualify, individuals must possess an electronic passport, gain ESTA approval, and follow all program regulations. The Department of Homeland Security oversees this program alongside the Department of State. Even with this waiver, visitors remain subject to verification by US Customs and Border Protection officials when they arrive.
The program strictly covers short-term stays. It does not grant permission for employment or academic enrollment. Anyone intending to stay longer than 90 days or engaging in activities outside the scope of the program must pursue a traditional US visa.
