Two individuals executed in Iran over Islamic State ties

Iranian authorities executed Mohiyodin Abdollahi and Hossein Palani following convictions for their membership in the Islamic State and plotting terrorist activities.

Iranian judicial authorities have confirmed the execution of two men accused of affiliation with the Islamic State. Mizan Online, the official news portal for the judiciary, stated that the hangings occurred on Tuesday, following confirmation of the death penalties by the Supreme Court.

The men were identified as Mohiyodin Abdollahi and Hossein Palani. According to official reports, they faced charges of armed rebellion against the Islamic Republic and were accused of plotting terrorist operations within the country. Specific details regarding the timing of their arrests or the nature of their trial proceedings were not disclosed.

The Islamic State has previously claimed responsibility for various acts of violence inside Iran. Human rights organizations, such as Amnesty International, highlight that Iran continues to execute more individuals annually than any nation outside of China. Furthermore, state authorities have ramped up capital punishment applications following regional escalations linked to the February 28 US-Israeli military actions against Iran.
