Four Individuals Apprehended for Illegal Mining in Nasarawa

Military forces in Nasarawa State arrested four suspects and seized mining equipment following a targeted raid on an illegal site in Karu LGA.

Members of Operation MESA successfully detained four individuals suspected of participating in illicit mining within the Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State. The military intervention also led to the seizure of various tools utilized for these unauthorized activities.

The details of the raid were made public on Tuesday through an update from security analyst Zagazola Makama. The operation was executed by personnel from the 177 Guards Battalion, stationed at the Forward Operating Base in Tattara.

Acting on reliable intelligence regarding unlawful excavations in Saniyan Gitata, the troops moved on the site at approximately 3:00 p.m. on Monday. Upon arrival, they arrested four people accused of engaging in illegal mining.

Among the confiscated items were an industrial power generator, three motorbikes, six shovels, three digging implements, 17 basins, seven jerrycans, two mobile devices, and an electrical cable. The military confirmed that the detainees and the seized equipment remain under official supervision as the inquiry proceeds. Legal proceedings are expected to follow once the investigation reaches its conclusion.
