Nigeria closes two gas stations in Ogun over fuel irregularities

Federal authorities in Ogun State have closed two fuel stations, Mobil and Managarborn Energy, for cheating customers and violating the Petroleum Industry Act.

On Monday, federal authorities in Nigeria shuttered Mobil and Managarborn Energy, two gas stations located in Ogun State, for selling less fuel than consumers paid for and violating the Petroleum Industry Act of 2021. The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority executed the operation through its Abeokuta branch.

Olufemi Adebowale, who directed the enforcement team, stated that the move aims to shield the public from exploitation and uphold petroleum safety and trade standards. According to Adebowale, the stations were sealed because they repeatedly ignored regulatory mandates. He specifically highlighted that the businesses had been under-dispensing fuel and illegally removing official government seals to continue operations after being sanctioned.

The regulator indicated that it has been observing these specific outlets since 2025. This action occurs as fuel prices remain elevated across the country, with costs in Abuja and surrounding regions ranging from N1,155 to N1,205 per liter, despite the government’s push for cost-reflective pricing.
