Trump Announces 20 Percent Security Levy for Strait of Hormuz Cargo

President Trump has implemented a 20 percent security charge on cargo passing through the Strait of Hormuz, declaring the U.S. as the region’s guardian.

On Monday, President Donald Trump revealed that his administration is initiating a 20 percent security fee on all freight moving through the Strait of Hormuz. He stated this tariff is intended to offset the expenses associated with maintaining safety in the vital maritime passage.

Writing on Truth Social, Trump emphasized that the Strait will stay operational regardless of Iranian involvement. He noted the reinstatement of an Iranian blockade, clarifying that this specific measure targets only Iranian vessels and their trade partners. Other nations will retain free passage.

Trump designated the United States as the official Guardian of the Hormuz Strait. He argued that it is only equitable for countries utilizing the waterway to pay back the U.S. for the resources required to stabilize the region. This policy takes effect immediately.
