Manchester United nearing £36 million deal for Aston Villa’s Youri Tielemans

Manchester United have triggered a £36 million release clause to sign Aston Villa midfielder Youri Tielemans following the player’s successful stint at Villa Park.

Manchester United are moving toward the acquisition of Aston Villa’s Youri Tielemans. The club has officially triggered the £36 million release clause in the Belgian midfielder’s contract. Discussions have accelerated since Belgium exited the 2026 FIFA World Cup, putting the 29-year-old on the verge of joining the Premier League side.

Tielemans arrived at Villa Park on a free transfer from Leicester City in 2023. Under manager Unai Emery, he became a central component of the squad, appearing 134 times and netting 10 goals across three seasons. His tenure included two qualifications for the UEFA Champions League, a run to the competition’s quarter-finals, and a successful Europa League campaign last term, where he scored in the final against Freiburg.

Previously, Tielemans secured both the FA Cup and Community Shield during his tenure with Leicester City. This move coincides with Manchester United’s recent £50 million agreement for Chelsea’s Andrey Santos. The pursuit of Tielemans follows the club’s decision to drop interest in Atalanta’s Ederson, making the Belgian their primary midfield target.
