A racing driver named Paul Rees, who occupied the passenger seat during Andrew “Freddie” Flintoff’s 2022 Top Gear crash, is pursuing legal action against BBC Studios. Court filings indicate that Rees is seeking damages of up to £150,000 for personal injuries sustained during the incident. While it was widely documented that Flintoff suffered severe facial and rib injuries when the three-wheeled Morgan Super 3 overturned at Dunsfold Park Aerodrome, the presence of a passenger remained previously undisclosed to the public.
BBC Studios is actively contesting the lawsuit, arguing that Rees did not report any injuries immediately following the collision. Furthermore, the broadcaster claims that the accident resulted from “faulty instructions” provided by Rees, asserting that the passenger had assured Flintoff the vehicle could not roll over despite the presenter’s earlier concerns. The defense alleges that the vehicle flipped because Flintoff continued to apply power as instructed by Rees during a turn. Currently, the matter is before the courts, and BBC Studios has declined to provide further comment while proceedings are ongoing.
