Starting Monday, July 13, 2026, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Abia State will begin a week-long enforcement of the Road Transport Safety Standardization Scheme (RTSSS). Sector Commander Ngozi Ezeoma noted that the initiative seeks to lower traffic accidents and injuries by ensuring fleet operators follow safety protocols.
The operation, which lasts until July 17, 2026, is part of a national strategy. Ezeoma emphasized that the goal is not to penalize transport companies but to improve safety standards. The enforcement focuses on registering unregistered operators, verifying the use of speed limiters, checking passenger manifests, and ensuring school bus safety.
During this period, teams will conduct rigorous patrols and public awareness campaigns. Offenders may face prosecution through mobile courts. Additionally, drivers could be subject to random alcohol and drug testing. The FRSC has positioned sufficient personnel and resources on key routes to maintain order while minimizing disruption for compliant motorists. Operators and drivers are encouraged to use this time to ensure their documentation and safety practices meet legal requirements.
