APC Sweeps Edo Local Government Elections: Secures All 18 Chairmanship and 192 Councillorship Seats

The Edo Independent Electoral Commission declared the APC winners of all 18 chairmanship and 192 councillorship seats following the recent local government elections.

The Edo Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC) has officially confirmed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) achieved a clean sweep in the recent local government elections. Chairman Jonathan Aifuobhokhan announced in Benin on Sunday that the party claimed all 18 chairmanship positions and every one of the 192 councillorship seats across the state.

Aifuobhokhan stated that the electoral process followed the protocols established by the Edo State Local Government Electoral Law of 2022 and its 2026 amendment. Returning officers across all wards and local government areas finalized their reports, confirming the APC’s total victory. The commission head noted that while minor logistical issues occurred, the voting process was carried out peacefully and remains valid.

The commission expressed appreciation to Governor Monday Okpebholo for facilitating the necessary conditions to hold the vote. Additionally, Aifuobhokhan thanked security personnel, the media, and local stakeholders for their roles in the event. While some opposition groups, including the PDP, NDC, and ADC, chose not to participate, a total of 12 parties were initially involved in the process.

Regarding those dissatisfied with the results, the commission advised them to utilize legal channels for redress rather than disruption. Certificates of return for the successful candidates are scheduled for distribution on Monday. Looking forward, the commission plans to review the exercise to address minor human errors and improve future electoral operations.
