US Defense Secretary Claims Iran Faces Consequences for Military Escalation

Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth declares that Iran is suffering the repercussions of recent military actions following a third wave of US strikes in the Strait of Hormuz.

United States Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth stated that Iran is dealing with the consequences of its recent decisions. He issued this comment on Saturday via X, following a new series of American military strikes directed at Iran.

Hegseth shared an official update from US Central Command, or CENTCOM, which validated the most recent offensive. He reiterated his position by stating that Iran chose poorly and must now bear the cost. This mission represents the third round of US-led strikes in the region over the course of one week.

CENTCOM officials noted that the military action was a response to an Iranian attack on a commercial ship moving through the Strait of Hormuz. Operations commenced at 7:15 pm ET after the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps reportedly targeted the M/V GFS Galaxy, a container ship sailing under the flag of Cyprus. This escalation occurred shortly after the IRGC Navy asserted that it had seized a vessel for allegedly using an unapproved route and disregarding warnings to stop.
