Law enforcement in Lagos State recently detained five individuals suspected of belonging to a cult. The operation, led by the Violent Crime Response Unit, targeted criminal activities in Apapa, Ijora, and Badia. Initial information guided officers to a 25-year-old suspect named Abubakar Ayomide, alias Garbazin. His cooperation helped authorities locate the group’s base, where four additional members were apprehended: Tanko Yusuf, Ahmed Abibu, Abubakar Shafi, and Fatai Mohammed.
Abubakar Ayomide admitted to his involvement with the Aiye Confraternity and is assisting police with further inquiries. During the raid, officers found various weapons including axes, knives, and a hammer. They also discovered substances believed to be Indian hemp along with various charms. Police are actively searching for remaining gang members.
Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, issued a strong warning to criminal groups operating within the region, stating that illegal behavior will face firm legal action. He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to eradicating cult violence and encouraged citizens to share information regarding criminal activity, guaranteeing that all tips will remain confidential.
