First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has called on affluent Nigerian musicians, including Burna Boy, Davido, and Asake, to dedicate resources toward helping the impoverished. Speaking during the launch of a national community food bank in Lokoja, Kogi State, she acknowledged that while enjoying luxury vehicles like Rolls-Royces and Maybachs is acceptable, the government needs assistance in addressing the significant needs of the populace. She pointed to Akon as a positive example of an artist engaged in meaningful philanthropic work.
Furthermore, Mrs. Tinubu emphasized the dignity of all legitimate work, encouraging Nigerians to embrace small-scale businesses such as selling akara. She shared the success story of an unemployed graduate in Abuja who turned to selling snacks and eventually grew the venture to support twelve employees. To further support local enterprise, the Renewed Hope Initiative provided 100 million Naira to empower 2,000 small-scale traders in Kogi State, granting each individual 50,000 Naira to strengthen their businesses.
