An Area Court at Centre-Igboro in Ilorin dissolved the Islamic marriage between Toyin Ajibola and Bashirat Mohammed on Wednesday, September 25, citing financial difficulties.

The presiding judge, Hammad Ajumonbi, stated that although Mr. Ajibola loved his wife, she needed to move on and not be left stranded.

The court granted custody of their three children to the wife and ordered her to observe a three-month iddah (waiting) period before she could remarry.

Judge Ajumonbi ordered Mr. Ajibola to provide for the children’s feeding to the best of his ability.

He should have unrestricted access to the children and the mother should always make the children available any time their father requested,” the judge said

Earlier, Ms. Mohammed had filed for divorce, expressing her frustration with the marriage due to financial issues and her husband’s irresponsibility.

“I want the court to grant me divorce so I can have rest of mind,” she said

The husband, however, informed the court that he remained interested in his wife despite his financial difficulties.

“I have been trying hard to get money to feed my family, but couldn’t.

“It is so painful that I can’t get money to visit her and the children when they left home,” he said.
