ACF Reports Criminal Gangs Levying Fees on Northern Nigerian Farmers

The Arewa Consultative Forum reports that bandits in Northern Nigeria are extorting farmers by forcing them to pay levies for both planting and harvesting crops.

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has issued a warning regarding bandits and terrorists who are forcing farmers in Northern Nigeria to pay illicit taxes. Professor Tukur Baba, the National Publicity Secretary of the organization, revealed these developments during a Saturday appearance on the Arise Television program, Morning Show.

Addressing the ongoing security crisis in the region, Baba noted that rural workers are being coerced into paying fees not just for planting, but also for harvesting their own crops. He remarked that the recent report from the World Food Programme was an expected outcome given the persistent warnings issued by the ACF regarding the region’s socioeconomic instability. He urged the government to address the root causes of these security threats and establish clear authority in the affected areas.
