Sheikh Ra’is, the Chief Imam of the Muslim Foundation Jumu’at Mosque in Gusau, Zamfara State, has called upon the Nigerian federal government to treat drug traffickers with the same severity as terrorists. During his Friday sermon, he highlighted that the rising prevalence of narcotics is a dangerous threat to both national security and the ethical fabric of society.
The cleric equated drug dealers to terrorists and stated that the nation must collaborate to dismantle these criminal networks. He emphasized that the responsibility for tackling this crisis extends beyond security forces, noting that parents play a crucial role in supervising their children’s activities to ensure they stay away from such dangerous paths.
Furthermore, Sheikh Ra’is appealed to traditional, religious, and community leaders to help educate the public on the dangers of illicit substances. He warned that sustainable development and peace remain impossible in a society struggling with high rates of drug abuse. He concluded by advising the youth to prioritize their future over the fleeting profits associated with the drug trade.
