Security analyst Dr. Bulama Bukarti has hailed the recent liberation of kidnapped students and staff in Oyo State as a major victory, though he is pushing officials to supply lasting mental health resources to those affected. During a Friday interview with Channels TV, Bukarti commended the successful effort but insisted that the administration must confirm the release resulted from a true tactical operation rather than a ransom payout.
Bukarti warned that funding kidnappers fuels future violence by providing criminals with the capital and supplies needed for further strikes. Beyond the circumstances of their release, he emphasized the severe distress suffered by the captives throughout their 56-day ordeal. With limited access to basic needs and reports of ongoing threats, these individuals face a high risk of long-term psychological damage.
He cautioned that ignoring the mental toll could lead to lasting post-traumatic stress or even impact later generations. Consequently, he is calling on the Oyo State authorities to implement a thorough support program that includes professional counseling alongside standard medical care for all survivors.
