Abuja Power Outage Linked to Illegal Intrusion at Maitama Substation

Unauthorized land occupation at the C2 Maitama Substation by individuals led by an FCDA official has resulted in significant damage and power outages for Abuja residents and businesses.

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has reported a service disruption at its C2 Maitama Substation due to an unauthorized takeover of the property. The incident was reportedly led by Chinedu Okoro, an assistant director at the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA).

This facility acts as a key distribution hub for local residences, diplomatic offices, and government agencies. During the occupation, essential cables and infrastructure sustained damage, rendering the site hazardous and unable to operate. Consequently, electricity delivery to the neighborhood has been suspended.

AEDC has formally requested an official inquiry into the trespass, maintaining that the site is their legitimate property. The company stated that such interference damages public interests and threatens the stability of the power grid. Repairs are scheduled to begin once the area is secured and authorized to resume operations. The utility provider is coordinating with law enforcement to address the matter and restore service as quickly as possible.
